Description:
Jeremy Clarkson recounts the story of Operation Chariot, considered the first true Mission Impossible: a daring Commando raid on the German-occupied dry dock at St. Nazaire, France, on March 28th, 1942. The mission's goal was straightforward – to destroy the dry dock and prevent the German battleship Tirpitz from having a secure base on the French Atlantic coast. Despite widespread doubts about its feasibility, Chief of Combined Operations Louis Mountbatten insisted on the operation. This program examines the events leading up to March 26th, 1942, when Commandos from Cornwall embarked on a floating bomb and ventured out to test whether surprise could triumph over overwhelming challenges.
