Girls of the Rain (2012)

"Girls of the Rain," the final installment in Alida Dimitriou’s film trilogy, explores the vital role women played in Greece's twentieth-century political struggles. The film focuses on the experiences of women imprisoned and tortured during the Colonels' dictatorship from 1967 to 1974, when they were in their twenties. Through the testimonies of fifty women, the film reveals their unwavering commitment to human dignity, echoing the ethos of the women who participated in the National Resistance. These women see themselves as the successors to those earlier activists, a sentiment powerfully expressed by one survivor who, even after being robbed of the ability to have children by her torturers, stated, "...we are their successors, just like the youth of today are our successors."
