Description:
For the 2006 Mozart Year, 28 Austrian filmmakers, including Ulrich Seidl, were asked to make a minute-long film using Mozart's music. Seidl chose the slaves' chorus from Zaide: "Brothers, let us be merry and bravely defy adversity" as the soundtrack. The film shows two men in a dimly lit room engaging in repetitive, emotionless masturbation. Paper towels are placed nearby. According to Nietzsche, all pleasure desires permanence; *Brothers, Let Us Be Merry* portrays the emptiness that follows this unattainable ideal.
