Description:
The Tale of Genji Museum in Uji City, Kyoto presents a short film that merges history and fantasy. It tells the story of Hana, a modern high school girl who is magically transformed into a cat and sent back in time to the Heian Era. She arrives 1,000 years ago, the setting of The Tale of Genji, Japan's most celebrated novel. Guided by Hikaru Genji, the novel’s central character, Hana experiences the emotions described by Murasaki Shikibu in her work. The short film incorporates scenes inspired by Lady Murasaki’s diary and historical accounts, including the story of Fujiwara no Michinaga acquiring early drafts of The Tale of Genji, eager to read them as they were being written.
