Debris (2015)

This short film profiles Tofino, BC artist Pete Clarkson as he undertakes his most significant project: a memorial for the 2011 Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami. The disaster deeply impacted him, as it did many worldwide. Years later, when debris from the Tohoku region began washing ashore, Clarkson found inspiration. He transforms the salvaged wood and objects into a distinctive public sculpture. The result is a moving memorial for remembrance and reflection, creating an emotional connection between the artist, his community, and the people affected by the distant tragedy.
