Description:

This is an unedited record of over 200,000 feet of film shot in Mexico in 1931 and 1932 by Sergei Eisenstein, Grigoriy Aleksandrov, and Eduard Tisse for Mary and Upton Sinclair and three American backers. Eisenstein envisioned a six-part film about Mexico titled "Calavera," "Sandunga," "Maguey," "Fiesta," "Soldadera," and "Epilogue." The project was abandoned due to budget problems and delays, and the producers prevented Eisenstein from editing the footage after he was recalled to the USSR by Iosif Stalin. From this material, subsequent films were produced by others: *Thunder Over Mexico* (1933), *Eisenstein in Mexico* (1933), *Death Day* (1934), *Time in the Sun* (1940), and *Que Viva Mexico* (1979).
