Description:
A businessman, reminiscent of a character from Kentridge's previous films, is seen on a hotel balcony observing the ocean. The waves endlessly roll in and out, and we experience this from his perspective. The scene then changes to a large drawing of the same man, still in his suit, who alternates between sleeping and reading a newspaper while sitting in a deck chair by the water. This drawing unfolds into a series of images that explore the passage of time, industry, and solitude. Kentridge frequently uses allusions, and here the film draws on Old Testament stories, which the artist says have significantly shaped his ideas. He describes this as a motif with multiple layers of meaning.
