Homophobia, That Painful Problem (2000)

This French documentary examines the global landscape of anti-gay hatred through interviews, personal stories, film and television clips, re-enactments of violence, lists of derogatory terms, and powerful visuals. It explores how lesbians and gay men face physical and verbal abuse, often supported by political and religious figures and the public, in countries including Algeria, China, Cuba, England, France, Guinea, India, Iran, Jamaica, Romania, and the United States. The film follows individuals like Salim, deported from France to Algeria for "re-education"; Cornelia, who fled Zimbabwe's homophobic government; and Phillipe, who was compelled to resign from his position as deputy mayor in France.
