This documentary explores how 31 artists – including writers, musicians, filmmakers, and dancers – react to Olivier Messiaen's powerful organ composition, "Apparition of the Eternal Church." Listening to the ten-minute piece with headphones, these individuals, many unfamiliar with religious settings, attempt to understand Messiaen’s vision: Can sound alone convey the spiritual, the architectural, and the timeless? The film presents a series of improvisational interpretations, navigating a complex world of opposing ideas. Eternity meets resolution, ecstasy clashes with pain, and the music and its performers evoke something akin to William Blake's concept of heaven and hell united.
