Description:
When 31,000 police officers intervene against 50 people living in trees, using tear gas and batons, a 550-hectare forest of oak, hornbeam, lily-of-the-valley, and other trees becomes a symbol of resistance. Since 2015, director Karin de Miguel Wessendorf has documented the protests against the clearing of the Hambach Forest and the destruction of villages near Europe's largest coal mine. Initially, the protests were organized by various groups with different aims, but in the autumn of 2018, the opposition to deforestation coalesced into a large, nationwide movement.
