Mexico, 1940. Ramon Merkader, an agent for the Soviet NKVD, arrives at Leon Trotsky's home concealed with an ice pick, intending to assassinate the exiled Russian revolutionary. Simultaneously, in Moscow, 2019, honors student Yura helps his classmate Masha with a history assignment about Merkader’s murder of Trotsky. Masha impulsively tries to seduce Yura, but their moment is interrupted by the visiting head of studies. Afterward, the principal reprimands Masha's teacher for her irresponsibility and threatens to dismiss her. As the school bell rings, the narratives of these three stories unexpectedly converge, offering a fresh perspective on historical events.
