Two Affect Studies (2001)

Two Affect Studies features straightforward experiments. The first shows a tape measure marking a spot on a wall as a rubber band is repeatedly snapped into the air in unpredictable ways. This is presented with the music "Functional" by Thelonious Monk, creating a somewhat humorous contrast. In the second part, Perlman films the visual effects of smoke from two burning cigarettes. Accompanied by Samuel Barber’s "Adagio for Strings," this sequence, similar to the first, reveals the unexpected emotional and humorous possibilities within simple actions.
