Description:
This experimental film, featured in a Museum of Modern Art exhibit, documents director Douglas Gordon's installation "Play Dead; Real Time." At the Gagosian Gallery in New York City, Gordon filmed a circus elephant as it repeatedly obeyed commands – lying down and struggling to rise. Like his other subjects, the elephant is shown to be controlled by forces beyond its own. The film presents multiple views of the event simultaneously, using front and rear projections and a monitor, offering a variety of perspectives instead of a single fixed viewpoint.
