Description:
This film uses contemporary interviews, archival footage, and sound recordings to recount the story of Brian Wilson in 1967. While his band, The Beach Boys, were achieving international success with their tour, Wilson was striving to create "SMiLE," a groundbreaking follow-up to their acclaimed album, *Pet Sounds*. Intended to surpass even The Beatles' *Sgt. Pepper* in musical and lyrical innovation, the project was rejected by the band upon their return. Consequently, *SMiLE* was shelved, coinciding with Wilson’s documented descent into depression, substance abuse, isolation, and physical decline. Decades later, in 2004, Wilson announced plans to perform the complete *SMiLE* album live in London. The film chronicles the journey of a troubled artist who, through his music, finds a path toward healing by finally sharing his magnum opus with the world.
