Douglas Tirola’s documentary follows the lives of Noel and Selma, two women who found feminism in the 1950s when societal expectations limited women to domestic roles. As the women's movement gained momentum, Noel, a former model and Playboy bunny, connects with Selma, a passionate radical feminist. Both leave their marriages and families to embrace their lesbian identity. Sharing a love for cooking and gardening, they establish Bloodroot in 1970 – a pioneering vegetarian restaurant and bookstore in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Interweaving archival footage with clips from *The Stepford Wives*, Tirola chronicles the cultural changes of the past four decades as Noel and Selma strive to maintain Bloodroot as a vital space for progressive women.
