Description:
In the Dominican Republic, tourists enjoy beautiful beaches, unaware of the hidden reality just miles away. Thousands of Haitians are forced to work on sugarcane plantations under armed guard. They toil for 14 hours a day, seven days a week, often without basic necessities like housing, electricity, clean water, education, healthcare, or proper food. "The Price of Sugar" follows Father Christopher Hartley, a Spanish priest who organizes these impoverished people, challenging the powerful forces that profit from their labor. The film explores the origins of the products we consume, the human cost of their production, and our own responsibility in the matter.
