Description:
Azarias, an orphaned shepherd, cares for a herd of oxen, particularly a notable ox named Mabata Bata. These oxen are intended as a "lobolo," a traditional marriage dowry for his uncle Raul. Azarias dreams of schooling, a goal supported by his grandmother. His life changes when Mabata Bata accidentally enters a mine – a remnant of the country's civil war – and explodes. Fearing his uncle's anger, Azarias flees into the forest with the surviving oxen. His grandmother and uncle then embark on a journey to find him, hoping to convince him to return.
