Description:
Courant recorded Garrel's conversations to create his first pressing film, an early exploration of contemporary cinema. In it, Garrel drew connections between his own work and figures from the 20th century, including Freud, Henri Langlois, Orson Welles, Marx, The Rolling Stones, Godard, Warhol, Picasso, and Bergman – all figures present in a distinct type of cinema that also informs Courant’s art. Four years later, Garrel met with Courant again, adding to the list names reflecting his personal tastes: Murnau, Von Stroheim, the Lumière brothers, Abel Gance, Polanski, Rivette, André Breton, Gabriele d’Annunzio, and actresses Anna Karina, Nico, Zouzou, and Maria Schneider – three of his own actresses.
