Description:
Maniac Summer presents recordings made in Paris during the summer of 2009. It's a wide-ranging work without a clear start or finish, and no single focus. A camera is placed facing a window and left recording continuously. It documents activity, street sounds, park noises, and Chantal Akerman's life in her apartment: smoking, working, talking on the phone. The central video features fragments of the artist’s daily routine, while the accompanying panels use isolated, altered, and repeated images from that video. These abstract remnants function as a kind of memory, reflecting back on the central images as shadowy echoes of reality.
