Description:
This 1938 film adapts Oscar Braaten's play. Eva Sletto portrays Milja, a young factory worker, and Harald Heide Steen is her unfaithful boyfriend, Julius. Their happy life at the factory is disrupted by the arrival of Petrina. Julius becomes captivated by Petrina, leading him to drink and steal. Milja is left alone, burdened with shame and a child born out of wedlock. The child is placed with Hønse-Lovisa while Milja works, but a doctor seeks to adopt the child to wealthy families. Desperate, Milja sacrifices her most prized possession to ensure the child's better future. However, Hønse-Lovisa helps her realize that material wealth can't replace genuine love and care.
