Description:
Following the sudden death of her husband in an accident, a young mother named Ruth is left to live with his parents. Shortly after, the mother-in-law departs, consumed by suspicion and jealousy, followed by the daughter-in-law. Only the grandfather and granddaughter remain: he is a stern and somber man, she is sweet and innocent. Their contrasting personalities make for a challenging household, and an attempt to find Ruth a home fails. The grandfather brings her back, almost reclaiming her like a thief. They travel to Vidin to find the mother, who is surprised by their arrival and departs for Germany by ferry. The grandfather stays behind, finding work and lodging, communicating with Ruth in a reserved manner. Then, a social worker arrives with a letter from Germany: the mother wants her child back.
