Description:
At thirty-five, Paul Gauguin left his successful career as a Paris stockbroker to become a painter. His distinctive style, using bold, unmixed colors, reflected his personal vision, but his art wasn't well-received during his lifetime. Gauguin spent years struggling with poverty and lack of recognition. Even a move to Tahiti didn't bring him lasting happiness. However, the paintings he produced there are now celebrated as masterpieces of the Post-Impressionist period.
