Zaide (2008)

Peter Sellars' 2008 production of Mozart's unfinished opera *Zaide*, presented at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, sparked controversy. Composed in 1780, *Zaide* features remarkably inventive melodies but lacks an overture, finale, and some spoken scenes. Sellars used these omissions to create a powerful statement against slavery. This vision, which had caused similar reactions in Vienna and London, generated a stir, though the Cour de l'Archevêché is no stranger to controversy.
