This short documentary film celebrates the legacy of Andrey Tarkovsky, a renowned filmmaker. In 1965, Tarkovsky visited Geghardavank in Armenia. The film explores what he sought and witnessed during his visit. Fortunately, some footage (6 minutes of 35mm black and white film) from his time at Geghardavank was preserved. Using new footage and filling in missing shots, the film connects the past with the present. It asks: What was Tarkovsky searching for in this 13th-century church nestled in the mountains? Perhaps he was seeking a connection to the divine. Indeed, only the presence of God seems significant in Geghardavank and its surroundings.
