Culture, une affaire d’État (2003)

"Culture," a historical novel, explores the French government's role in shaping culture during the Fifth Republic. From André Malraux's first tenure as Minister of Cultural Affairs in 1959 to Catherine Tasca in 2002, the film chronicles key moments in state cultural policy: the Langlois incident concerning the Cinematheque Landowski, Boulez's reform of music, the construction of the Centre Pompidou and the Louvre, the creation of the music festival, and the promotion of the "cultural exception." Using archival footage, interviews, and personal accounts, the film offers a political perspective on contemporary artistic life.
