Description:
In 1982, Cody Webster and his friends from Kirkland, Washington, waited nervously in a dugout for the Little League World Series championship game. Their concerns were typical for 12-year-olds: hitting, pitching, and hoping for victory. But the adults watching saw a larger picture. The nation was still grappling with recent events like American hostages and an oil crisis, carrying the weight of economic difficulties from the late 1970s, and watching a newly elected President face threats both at home and abroad. On that small Pennsylvania baseball field, the Kirkland players entered a world far beyond baseball, where an American team hadn't won the international championship in over ten years.
