Description:
Architect and poet Salim Ahmed Salim lives with his widowed mother in Nizamuddin, India. He takes a job in Lucknow with Shirazi & Company and asks her to stay behind. When she refuses, he sells their house and moves to Lahore, Pakistan. He tries to stop her from leaving, but is attacked and left unconscious by Hamid. Though he recovers, Salim turns to alcohol and a courtesan named Phoolrani. His mother arranges for him to marry their new neighbor's daughter, Sahira, which he does reluctantly. Trapped in a loveless marriage, Salim continues to visit Phoolrani, hoping to reunite with his former love, only to discover Sahira's unexpected persistence.
