Return to Mount Kennedy (2018)

In 1965, Robert Kennedy became the first person to summit Mount Kennedy in the Yukon Territory, named after his deceased brother. The expedition was led by Jim Whitaker, the first American to climb Everest and an original full-time employee of REI. Fifty years later, Jim’s sons Bob and Leif, along with Christopher Kennedy, decide to climb the mountain again, honoring their fathers' shared achievement and their unusual friendship. Seattle filmmaker Eric Becker's moving documentary blends archival footage—including Kennedy family home movies—with interviews from Jim and those who knew him best, following the three sons as they retrace their fathers’ steps. Eddie Vedder, a friend of Bob's, composed original music for the film, complementing the sweeping mountain landscapes in this heartfelt story.
