Description:
On the island of Funen, in the countryside, stands Uglegaarden, the largest and wealthiest farm in the area. It belongs to widow Dora and her three intense stepsons: Karl, Viggo, and Thomas. They frequently visit the village inn, where the innkeeper, Sara, endures their rough behavior. The brothers are plotting to seize the small farm of Mosegaarden next door. They've learned that Mosegaarden's fields and hills contain significant amounts of gravel. Its owner, Chr. Thorup, has heavily mortgaged the property. The Uglegaards are waiting for the opportune moment to take control. However, their dark plans are complicated when Thorup’s son, Henrik, unexpectedly arrives at Mosegaarden.
