Description:
Blue Movie is a heartfelt tribute to Juanita Slusher, known as "Candy Barr," a prominent Dallas exotic dancer of the 1950s and 60s. The film primarily uses footage from the male revue film Smart Alec, shared by the filmmaker's grandfather, set to a performance of "Autumn Leaves" by Dallas vocalist Lily Taylor. Candy Barr herself considered "Autumn Leaves" her favorite song to dance to, and saw her dancing as a creative outlet. The original film's silver-based emulsion was transformed using cyanotype chemistry, exposed to sunlight to produce the distinctive blue images.
