Otello (2001)

Daniel Barenboim's conducting is a highlight of this live performance of Otello from the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden. He masterfully guides the orchestra, maintaining intense energy from the storm's opening to Iago's "Credo" and Desdemona's "Willow Song." While the staging has weaknesses – including a static chorus, uninspired acting (with the exception of Valeri Alexejev), and somewhat clumsy video direction by Alexandre Tarta – Barenboim's precise and powerful conducting elevates the entire production. The video direction struggles with clarity, particularly in the opening scene, and avoids using reaction shots.
