Fidelio (2006)

Two years before the story begins, nobleman Florestan tried to expose crimes committed by nobleman Pizarro. As revenge, Pizarro secretly imprisoned Florestan in the prison he governs. The jailer, Rocco, has a daughter, Marzelline, and a servant, Jaquino. Florestan's wife, Leonore, arrives at Rocco's as a young man seeking work and is hired. Under orders, Rocco has been reducing Florestan’s food rations until he is near starvation. Setting: A Spanish state prison near Seville, late 18th century.
