Description:

This film follows the Beat Generation, starting with Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac's first meeting in 1944 at Columbia University, and continuing to the deaths of Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs in 1997. The movie uses three actors to portray these writers and chronicles their friendships, how they became known in America, their travels, frequent humor, Kerouac’s death, and Ginsberg's growing activism. Their movement intertwined with bebop music, John Cage's compositions, abstract expressionist art, and experimental theater. In recent interviews, Ginsberg, Burroughs, Kesey, Ferlinghetti, Mailer, Jerry Garcia, Tom Hayden, Gary Snyder, Ed Sanders, and others discuss the significance and lasting influence of the Beats.
