Clash (2017)

Commissioned by the BBC & BFI, CLASH is a short experimental documentary that examines Britain’s fascination with period dramas and their effect on how we see modern Britain. Part parody, part interview, the film responds to Humphrey Jennings' 1942 documentary 'LISTEN TO BRITAIN,' which promoted a narrative of national unity. Through the voices of underrepresented queer people of color, CLASH challenges the myths presented in these films. Using candid interviews and staged scenes – including a hobby horse race in East London – the film explores the complexities of nostalgic heritage cinema and its erasure of contemporary Britain’s diverse reality.
