Description:
After years in the army and traveling the Amazon, Loeti wants to return to his homeland, reconnect with his people – the Aluku, the first Maroons of French Guiana and Suriname. When illegal gold mining is shut down, he's forced to flee the area where he's working and becomes lost in the Amazon rainforest. Relying on his childhood knowledge of the forest, he must navigate dangerous perils to find his way back, guided by spirits, animals, a compass, and his prayers. His arrival brings him face-to-face with a transformed community, where traditional Aluku values are challenged by modern influences. Loeti confronts his past and rediscovers the Aluku's ancient African customs as he immerses himself in their magical world.
