Description:
In 1876, Thomas Foolery enters a contest to build a steam-powered tree-cutting machine, driven by a desire for fame. He soon realizes his creation is a disastrous failure. His father tries to get him to see reason, and his boyfriend leaves him. The situation worsens when Thomas discovers his boyfriend struggling with cocaine addiction in the ruined forest, leading him to a painful realization of his own misguided ambitions. He destroys the machine and offers to sell the patent for a solar water collector if the railroad stops supplying cocaine to its workers. Ultimately, the railroad destroys the solar collector designs to protect their profitable firewood business.
