Description:
For decades, secret baby auctions have taken place in Shinjuku, Tokyo, exposing the selfishness and greed of those who buy and sell children. The film centers on Minister Machiko and her allies, who advocate for minorities and the disabled. Her son, Akira, and Toru, a political supporter, are in love and determined to be Japan's first same-sex married couple, despite a strict legal prohibition. Guided through this complex political and emotional landscape by Masaru, a hard-of-hearing lawyer, they navigate a minefield. Unbeknownst to them, Masaru is Minister Machiko’s son, given to her at one of the earliest auctions. The film culminates in a celebratory portrayal of Japan's first gay marriage.
