Description:
Anna Alexandrovna Barkova (1901-1976) was a journalist and poet who encountered questionable individuals and engaged in troubled relationships. She worked in the Kremlin but was later dismissed. Arrested in 1934, she spent five years in penal servitude in Karaganda. During World War II, she lived in Ukraine. Arrested again in 1946, she served another five years in the Komi Republic. Rehabilitated in 1956 and receiving a disability pension, she was arrested once more in 1957, this time for a ten-year sentence. *8 Heads of Madness* explores the ongoing conflict between an artist and the forces around her, as well as her inner struggles and desires. The film is a drama drawn from the difficult experiences of the 20th century in a troubled nation, viewed through the insightful perspective of a poet.
