Description:
For years, the isolated inhabitants of a small island have practiced voodoo and worshipped the priest Damballah, a death cult whose strange rituals have been largely ignored by mainland authorities. Captain Labesch arrives to bring order to the island's lawlessness and reform its ineffective police. He seeks help from Carl Van Molder, a wealthy plantation owner who controls much of the island and its people. Van Molder, a believer in the power of the mind, advises Labesch against disrupting the island's traditions. Also visiting is Van Molder’s niece, Annabella, a temperance activist hoping to secure funding for her league. She finds herself falling for Lieutenant Andrew Wilhelm of the police.
