Unknown Quantity (2005)

Following the events of September 11th, Paul Virilio experienced an unusual philosophical reaction: being overwhelmed by the reality of the situation. He paused his work on "L'accident Intégral" to create an exhibition exploring the idea of global accidents. The resulting show, "Ce qui arrive," was displayed at the Fondation Cartier in Paris from November 29, 2002, to March 30, 2003. A central part of the exhibition was the film installation, "Unknown Quantity," which features a staged conversation between Virilio and Svetlana Alexievich, author of "Chernobyl. Chronicle of the Future," focusing on how history transforms into catastrophe through the perspective of a key witness.
