Description:
From the moment fire engulfs the World Trade Center's North Tower and thick smoke fills the air, to the vast field of ash-brown debris the next morning, *The First 24 Hours* captures "ground zero" in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Independently filmed over a single day, the film first witnesses the collapse of the twin towers, marked by a line of fire and structural failure. It then offers an intimate look at the smoldering, monochromatic site and the surrounding deserted streets, the ashen outskirts of New York's financial center, desolate and covered in debris – an epicenter transformed into a landscape of steel ruins. People at the site work with relentless intensity, then become stunned and almost detached. The images are presented without commentary or music, allowing the events to speak for themselves.
