Tobey Marshall, ostracized by his classmates and deeply affected by the loss of his parents in the 9/11 attacks, lives a solitary life with his Uncle Nick and Jannah, convinced he's protected by a guardian angel. He finds an unexpected friend in Suzy, who challenges her own beliefs as they connect. Suzy attracts the attention of Jim Doder, a popular basketball player with a hidden life as a gang leader involved in burglaries. When Suzy rejects Jim and remains close to Tobey, Jim retaliates. After a member of Doder's gang is arrested, Tobey is framed for the crime. In a tense climax, Tobey must clear his name and expose Jim Doder to Suzy and the school.
