Ein Märchen aus alten Zeiten (2001)

The film's title is inspired by a poem by German poet Heine. The 9/11 attacks were incomprehensible; while individual deaths are relatable, the scale of 2500 lives lost felt like an abstraction, a fairy tale. Therefore, the film, shot from the filmmaker's roof, frames the events of 9/11 within a fairytale context – an image observing this story. Like traditional fairy tales rooted in the past, it reflects a child dreaming and absorbing stories from history. – Jonas Mekas
