Description:
Using 1950s documentary footage and commentary, the film explores why modern life often feels marked by unhappiness, anxiety, and fear. The film is divided into two distinct sections, with directors Pier Paolo Pasolini (left-leaning) and Giovanni Guareschi (conservative) offering opposing views on society and its solutions. Pasolini's section criticizes Western culture, especially its treatment of colonized Africa. It also chronicles the liberation of former colonies, presenting these people as a powerful new force who embrace Marxism as a path to freedom, and whose passionate nature will define the future. Guareschi's section, in contrast, defends Western civilization and expresses hope for humanity’s future, framed within traditional Christian beliefs.
