Description:

Following the end of the Civil War in 1865, over four million enslaved people gained their freedom. Decades later, the Library of Congress collected and preserved the stories of approximately 2,000 survivors from that era. This HBO documentary brings these firsthand accounts – some harrowing, others hopeful – to life. The film features over a dozen prominent African-American actors narrating the stories.
