Girls on Film (2006)

"Girls on Film" spotlights 70 largely unknown movie stars. These women appeared in countless films but were never intended for public viewing. Often nameless, they remain enigmatic figures. This film honors these forgotten women, known as "china girls" by the industry – anonymous female film studio workers who created color-timing control strips. Originally intended only for lab use to match film color, these images, heavily damaged over time, have been restored and enhanced. The result is that these previously unseen women now resemble publicity photos of famous movie stars.
