Description:
Saraswati, despite a detached upbringing by his stepmother, develops into a compassionate man with ambitious ideals. He chooses to forgo his own happiness without telling his father, who arranges his marriage to Kumud, an educated woman from a wealthy family. Saraswati decides to call off the engagement and writes to Kumud to explain. Soon, she replies, and they begin exchanging letters. Eventually, Saraswati defies tradition and visits his fiancée. They share a brief romance, and he returns home promising Kumud and her family that he will return. However, upon his return, a family dispute occurs, and Saraswati writes to Kumud that he cannot marry her.
