This black-and-white documentary explores two interconnected stories of loss. One follows a truck driver traveling from Johannesburg to Luderitz, South Africa, whose journey is filled with memories of his lost love and their breakup. These memories are conveyed through recurring scenes accompanied by music from Alec Empire, Macy Gray, and Robert Schumann. This personal story is interwoven with the tragic history of the Herero people in Namibia, who suffered greatly in German concentration camps near Luderitz early last century. The film depicts this history with stark imagery – slanted frames, unusual camera angles, and a complex sound design. The decaying buildings that remain are remnants of failed colonial endeavors in Africa.
