Description:

Serge, a sculptor and pioneer leader, begins working with a new plastic material at a camp for creatively gifted children housed in an old mansion. Pioneer Lopukhin is deeply in love with his classmate Ergolina, oblivious to Sonya Zagremukhina's growing affection for him. Their emotions and moods are explored through their involvement in a production of Lermontov's "Masquerade," which gradually transforms into a drama filled with unexpected confessions, insults, jealousy, and outbursts. The teenagers become so absorbed in their feelings that they overlook Serge’s pedagogical intentions. By the film's end, they are ready for a celebration of first love without needing any prompting.
