Description:
Valentin, a poor wanderer, arrives in a bustling city hoping to make his way. Coincidentally, Master Argus, the kingdom's powerful wizard and the queen's advisor, is searching for an apprentice. Valentin believes magic is his path to success. He demonstrates remarkable talent during the selection process but is ultimately thwarted by Katrina, the sole other applicant, and doesn't secure the position. He finds refuge with Master Zacharias, a pharmacist, who teaches him herbalism and medicine after an accident prevents Valentin from practicing magic. Dissatisfied with this limited instruction, Valentin begins to study magic independently. Investigating a recurring plague of rats, he uncovers a series of interconnected secrets.
